Frequently asked

FAQ

How does this work?
We fetch /robots.txt and parse every Sitemap: directive, then probe 8 common locations like /sitemap.xml, /sitemap_index.xml, /wp-sitemap.xml, etc. Each candidate is fetched and content-sniffed to confirm it's actually a sitemap.
Why is a sitemap missing from robots.txt?
It's optional — many CMSes (WordPress with Yoast, Shopify, Squarespace) don't add the Sitemap: line by default. If you control the site, add it: search engines will discover sitemaps faster.
What if no sitemap is found?
The site might not have one — that's a real problem for SEO. Use the generator to build one from a crawl of the homepage.
